TOMMY WHITE
SINCE I WAS A CHIld…
I have been obsessed with music. It was only a matter of time before I wanted to add myself to the narrative. The product of 8 years of work … Now I believe I am proficient in my craft and can begin to turn heads.
Post Malone’s style is something nobody can place in a box. Is it rock? Rap? Pop? Nobody can figure it out. But my goal on this project was to make one of his sad songs sound upbeat. The easiest way to do that was adding a catchy counter melody to back up his vocals.
Summer in September is a song that was created in the early part of September when the memory of summer was slowly drifting away, yet it still feels like summer is around. With help on the guitar from a talented friend named Carson, this song was made in hopes to keep the summertime attitude alive as September passed by us.
For this project, I wanted to go for a big, epic sound that gets people pumped up. For the melody, I wanted it to feel like someone was entering a football stadium and the crowd is roaring and cameras are flashing. A dramatic synth with a lot of reverb got the job done.
As the title suggests, this song was made on a rainy day. There is a sort of bliss that comes with an afternoon rain shower that, personally, makes me feel very clear. This song, my take on the sub-genre of “lo-fi”, captures my mood on these memorable days.
Sampling is one of the most-used techniques in production. This song’s melody is driven by the sample. In order to give the sample more life, I added a lot of reverb, compression, and a vinyl effect to make it sound like an old record.
The synth that I use for the main melody, in my opinion, has such a cool tone. The harmonics at the top are distorted, but the low end of the sound is so smooth that it creates a very intriguing noise. This piece was made when I had recently purchased a lot of new software. When I heard this sound while browsing through patches I instantly knew I had to make something with it.
